Physics Options
The following tasks are for the field of astroparticle physics. Some were made during the graduate program in Computational Physics of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Master in Computational Physics) and during the doctoral program in Astroparticle Physics (PhD in Astroparticle Physics - Cosmic Rays), on Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics Division of the physics department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, under the supervision of Prof. Anastasios Liolios.

All operations have a brief description.


Numerical study of the electron lateral distribution in atmospheric showers of high energy cosmic rays         (October 2013) Atreidis Giorgos
The study of the lateral distribution of electrons in an atmospheric cascade can lead to useful conclusions on the mass and energy of the primary cosmic particle. In this work we compare the results we get from simulations by the CORSIKA program, with the theoretical NKG function expressing the lateral distribution of electrons. We then modify the original NKG function to fit better the data of the simulation. Finally, we propose this procedure as a method to approach the mass of the primary particle which started the atmospheric cascade.

Advances in astroparticle physics                  (December 2011) Atreidis Giorgos
Many experiments that exist today, such as HESS, MAGIC, VERITAS, CANGAROO and other, provide information and make conclusions for cosmic gamma rays that reach the Earth. A new experiment, CTA is believed to gather information with bigger resolution so it will provide data that will help to answer several theoretical questions.
